RTÉ today announced that its RTÉ Radio 1 and RTÉ 2fm apps are now available from the App Store. The two apps are available free for both iPhone and iPod touch users.
These apps for iPhone and iPod touch are our latest new media offering for listeners. As a public service broadcaster, it’s our ambition to provide listeners with as many ways as possible to listen to radio so that they can listen whenever and however they want,

We’re particularly pleased to be able to develop an app that makes all of the great content from RTÉ.ie available via radio streams.
The RTÉ Radio 1 app offers users four functions: On Air, News, Podcasts and Contact. By choosing On Air users can tune into whichever programme is currently broadcasting live on RTÉ Radio 1. Using the News function users can access RTÉ.ie’s mobile news service featuring news, sport, business and entertainment news as well as RTÉ Aertel pages. With the Podcast function users can access and download podcasts from RTÉ Radio 1’s vast podcast selection, many of which regularly feature in Ireland’s top 10 podcast download chart. Podcasts are alphabetically listed and use Quicktime. With the Contact function users can instantly email live programmes from their iPhone or iPod touch.
The RTÉ 2fm app offers users five functions: On Air, Just Played, News, Podcasts and Contact. The On Air, News, Podcasts and Contact functions reflect the Radio 1 app functions. Additionally, the RTÉ 2fm app offers track information such as song name and artist about the track currently playing and tracks just played as well as the opportunity to download tracks from the iTunes Store.
RTÉ Radio 1 and RTÉ 2FM are available for free from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/.
The apps were developed by David Timpson, RTÉ Radio’s Digital Production Co-ordinator, working alongside Chris Gould of international technology company, All-In-Media.
RTÉ Radio is available to listen to on FM, on digital radio, online, via digital television (Chorus NTL and Sky) and via satellite.
